We photographed these beautiful images with SMOKE BOMBS this summer at a wedding near Fremont Ohio. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning to add smoke bomb wedding photography images to your day:
Location Matters
You want to create depth in these images and a great way to do that is to choose a wooded location. The smoke bombs will float in between the trees and create beautiful depth
Weather Matters
Ideally these images will be done during the day so we can use the sun to our advantage! If you look closely you’ll see the sun rays through the smoke bombs. THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT! These images were taken around 4pm after their ceremony. This was perfect time because the sun wasn’t directly overhead but was still bright enough to create rays when the sun hit the smoke. Secondly, it can’t be too windy. If your wedding day happens to be really windy just save those bombs for a romantic post wedding session.
Time Matters
More than likely you’ll need to set off multiple bombs to capture these so plan a little extra time in your portrait timeline to accommodate.
Color Matters
The bride wanted peach colored bombs to match her wedding colors but peach smoke bombs are not currently made. So we set off white and orange to create a softer toned peach. Think about your colors and theme before purchasing your smoke bombs.
Quantity Matters
For these images we set off 2 smoke bombs for each pose. In total we probably used 8 smoke bombs total between the images of the couple and images of the bridal party.
Help Matters
If you plan to include your bridal party in some photos you’ll need two extra people to help set off the bombs. Have a couple extra friends hop on your party bus to help set off the smoke bombs and hand them a beer to enjoy as compensation. (notice beer in hand of helpful friend)
Expression Matters
As your photographer we will give you a basic pose before beginning but you two have the liberty to change up your expressions and movements! While the smoke bombs are set off give a kiss or two, kiss his or her cheek, touch your foreheads together, give eskimo kisses, whisper inside jokes to invoke genuine smiles from each other. Once the smoke bombs go off we only have a few seconds to grab these images so mix it up to give your gallery some variety.
Lastly, just have fun! These images will be the most beautiful if you are able to enjoy the process and each other’s company. Leave the rest to us!
