I’ve never considered myself to be a romantic. Growing up, I never dreamed about my wedding day, I never wanted to get married, and I never wanted to have kids. But after 10 years photographing weddings across Toledo, and having gotten married and had a child myself, I can firmly say that there’s no better word to describe me than “romantic.” Watching each of our couples is a gift — seeing their adoration for their partner and capturing the loving looks from their families helps me fall more in love with love each day. I may have a photography degree, but I believe it’s this on-the-job experience and my inherent passion for people that drives me to become a better photographer with each shutter-click.

Most shy people probably wouldn’t choose a career as a wedding photographer. But I view each wedding as an exciting opportunity to push myself as a person and as an artist. My fine art degree from BGSU taught me how to evaluate color and composition, but there are some things you can only learn on wedding day — like how to hang with the groomsmen, or how to spot a look of pure romance between the happy couple on the dance floor. I love combining my education and 5+ years of experience to shoot creative photos full of detail and emotion.

As a photojournalist for the Toledo Free Press, I learned how to use my camera to seek out the story — a skill that’s incredibly important come wedding day. While your guests are focusing on finding their table assignment or a glass of spilled champagne, I’ll be looking past the noise to document your parents in a tender embrace or the flower girl tucking a bloom in her hair. I’m a cool guy, so I hate to get all sappy, but capturing these memories that you’ll cherish for years is the highlight of my job. That, and snagging a piece of your wedding cake.

I’ve shot a ton of weddings over my 10+ years as a pro photographer, but I have to say — there’s something special about portrait photography. Whether you’re sitting for bridal portraits, taking engagement photos, or enjoying an anniversary session, portraits are freeing. There’s no timeline, no constricting tux jacket, no line of guests anxious to chat with you. It’s just you, me, and my camera. So let’s find a metropark or historic Toledo street that makes you smile, and spend some time laughing together!

I’m a quiet guy, so it shouldn’t surprise you that some of my favorite wedding day moments are the quiet ones: when the groom hugs his mom right before the ceremony, a father-daughter first look, and those few minutes when the happy couple sneak away from the party to just be alone. These little moments are filled with big emotions — the stuff wedding photographer dreams are made of! Thanks for trusting me to create your family heirlooms; I’ve been doing this for nearly a decade, but it’s still a responsibility I don’t take lightly!
